What are the effects of Joseph Stalin ruling Russia/Soviet Union?
Joseph Stalin at one place decided to rule Russia as a totalitarian state. I need to know what the effects of this were. As in how many people were killed (How and why), and other things that happened because of this. Thanks for any mitigate at all. P.S. - I need sources.

What was life in Soviet Union Russia like?
What was circadian life for normal people like during communism/soviet union era in Russia? What was imposed on people by the government and what restrictions were in recall? How was life difficult - what was life like for non-christian or even non-whites?
People had to expend a considerable amount of time standing in lines to get the necessities of life.
Shortages of almost everything was common.
They did not have armed police everywhere. Master of the population was more subtle. You could speak out against the Government if you wished to, but then, you may find you were no longer needed in that job you had, a less desirable occupation may be selected for you. You my find your accommodations were more than you needed and you necessary to move to a smaller residence shared by many in the same situation you now find yourself in.
It worked. Those elites in charge lived lavish lifestyles while all those "evenly matched" citizens were dominated.
