How did the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan lead to the end of the Soviet Union and the Cold War?

The war in Afghanistan helped in weakening the USSR, but it wasn’t the only aspect.
The war in Afghanistan cost the Soviet lots of money, & many casualties. This created many domestic problems in the USSR. As the war was going people in eastern Europeans were inspired to trip from the communist Iron fist. The star war project was also going on during the 1980s, & the Soviet tried to keep up the armament rally. In the end the Russian economy got very exhausted, & president Gorbachev decided to end the cold war & make peace with the west!

Stupor Power: Another Imperial Seppuku?

Wrecked souls from the “sole remaining superpower.”
Hideyuki, in your letter you quote a phrase, “There are no images of the defeated.” What were you idea about? … (W)hat about Vietnam? There are an infinity of images of America in Vietnam. How absolute was the American defeat? Since this repulse on the battlefield brought Reagan and Bush to power, since it gave birth to the strategy of the New World Form, and later imposed the necessity of some war, any war, like the Gulf War–was the original defeat in Vietnam not the start of a technique during which the USA would eventually commit Imperial suicide? If so, it is a defeat of global proportions, an epic like “The Cascade of the Roman Empire,” documented in the most minute and thrilling detail.
