Do you know where I could watch the famous Soviet/ Cuban film "I am Cuba" ("Soy Cuba") online?
I've never as a matter of fact asked where I could see a film online before lol, but I know this movie is very famous and excellent cinema! It's in Russian and Spanish, I credit.
Has anyone here seen it? If so, do you know where I could watch it online?
Netflix has the DVD elbow. Unfortunately, it is not one of the movies you can watch on line through Netflix.
What are these jokes meant to be saying about Soviet russia ?
Jokes invented by Yakov Smirnoff, involving the comparisons of things in the In accord States and the Soviet Union.
"In America, you drive car. In Soviet Russia, car drives you!"
"In America, you go to parties. In Soviet Russia, cocktail goes to you!"
"In America, you watch television. In Soviet Russia, television watches you!"
"In America, you delineate dictionary. In Soviet Russia, dictionary defines you!"
"In America, you shoot gun. In Soviet Russia, gun shoots you!"
Being Russian myself i can be conversant with 3 of these jokes, to another 2 i have suggestions
"In America, you go to parties. In Soviet Russia, party goes to you!" Dinner party in Soviet Russia is the Communist Party and it had a total control over live of soviet people. For example if a wife gets to recognize her husband is cheating on her in Soviet Russia she could go to the major party member at his work and complain. That party memner then would talk to her spouse and say that he must stay in the family and stop cheating because family is the "cell of the society" and if leaves his one's own flesh for another woman he could be excluded from the Communist party.
"In America, you watch television. In Soviet Russia, television watches you!" Connected to the security that total control of the government over people stretches to their personal life, even at home they can't get rid of that and even tv watches what they're doing and what they're talking about.
"In America, you identify dictionary. In Soviet Russia, dictionary defines you!" The party and the government defines who are you and how you should behave, you're not able to determine yourself (because ot total control)
"In America, you shoot gun. In Soviet Russia, gun shoots you!" - may be remembering of the times when a man could be put in can or be shot (by Stalin's secret orders) because they were "enemies" of Soviet Russia or government, speaking about things they were not satisfied about, crytising the way oversight exercise, making jokes about party leaders etc.
"In America, you drive car. In Soviet Russia, car drives you!" - may be also remembering the times when for such "enemies" of Soviet Russia a car secretly came in the midway of the night and took all family members and nobody saw them after that (they were put in jails or shot).
History as Propaganda: The Nazi-Soviet Legacy in Eastern Europe.
Recorded memory is often far more alive in Eastern Europe than in the West.
This is one reason why governments in the ex-Soviet republics and Russia have increasingly started to look back at the account of the Soviet Union and its relation to its former republics to add legitimacy for current geopolitical strategies involving those no longer part of the Soviet round.
In particular, as NATO expansion is advocated for Belarus, Ukraine and Georgia, it has become a staple of pro-NATO fanfare that only entrance into NATO and a forthright alliance with the USA can protect them from Russian domination.
This issue is one quite varied to the that of EU membership. Yet the Atlanticists are very powerful in Eastern Europe in insisting that gravitation towards the EU can only be allowed if non-EU states first adjoin NATO.
Something that only antagonises post-Soviet Russia and is probably meant to in some decision making quarters.
That had its consequences in August 2008 with the war between Georgia and Russia.
In place of of the West gradually building up trade ties with Georgia through the EU, the West had indulged Mikheil Saakashvili's disputatious nationalist regime. Its fanatical insistence on ramping up the conflict with Russia was intended largely as a means of speeding up NATO access.
So it was hardly surpising that hack propagandists who masquerade as journalists started to scribble about how Putin's Russia was some nauseating amalgam of both Hitlerite and Stalinist tyranny rolled into one in it's contempt for the rights of small nations.
Something that found it's softness back in 1939 with the Nazi...
