Can a vintage watch that is tightly wound be repaired?
I'm interested in purchasing this watch. It's sold as is to be repaired. The prematurely sets smoothly. Is it possible that it can run again?
Since electronic watch movements have gained bazaar share, the mechanical watch repairers have become harder to find. Electronic watches have been popular for 35 years - and many lifeless watch repairers have retired. Parts are harder to find. Skilled craftsmen who used to fabricate rare parts are also inflexible to find.
The real question is not "can it be repaired" because it can IF you can find some skilled in that art. Finding one is harder. Before I bought it I would govern repairers skilled in the art and what they charge. You may find the repair cost very substantial (and perhaps use this to reduce purchase price if you long for to proceed).
My father went into watch repair after fighting in World War II. He retired from this in 1980 and at that time he had already seen a signal reduction in mechanical watch repair facilities and parts. In 1990 he indicated there were fewer than 10% of the repairers that had practiced in his site in 1980. I can only assume this trend has continued.

Where would you recommend I go to repair/refurbish my vintage LCD watch?
I have a vintage 1984 Seiko LCD digital watch. It has saccharine value to me. It has four buttons that are very hard to press and the quartz display is scratched. Can anyone recommend a place that specializes in LCD watch refurbishing/improvement?

I have a Pulsar (now owned by Seiko) watch about the same vintage with almost the same problems as yours. Call them and they can ascertain you if they have the parts to repair it or not. In my case the buttons were sticky and the crystal was cracked. They told me they could repair it and I sent it in. I got it back in about 2 weeks with a the classics saying they could not replace the crystal as their replacement stock was depleted and it was no longer being made. They did, however, fix the buttons and replaced the battery at no exhort. It just depends on what parts they have left over.
